Rosario Grabs Three TD’s; Chargers Blow Out Titans 38-10

On a day when the Chargers honored former linebacker Junior Seau, the team rose to the occasion, pounding the Tennessee Titans easily 38-10 to push to 2-0 on the season.

Seau would have been proud of tight end Dante Rosario, who came out of the shadow of Antonio Gates to score three touchdowns from QB Philip Rivers in the blowout win.

”He likes catching touchdowns here,” said Philip Rivers, who threw scoring passes of 11 and 4 yards to Rosario on the first two possessions by the Chargers, and then hit the wide-open tight end on a 15-yarder in the third quarter.

Gates was a game-time scratch due to a rib injury sustained in the season-opening win at Oakland. Rosario did an excellent job stepping in, and it looked at times like the Titans forgot to even cover him.

”He just tore it up today. Things happen in mysterious ways, man. It might have been meant for Dante to have this game. I’m very happy for him,” Gates said.

Running back Jackie Battle, another Bolts backup, had two 1-yard touchdown runs in the fourth quarter. With Ryan Mathews still not back from a broken collarbone, Battle saw extensive duty.

Rivers was 24 of 32 for 284 yards. Malcom Floyd had six catches for 109 yards and Rosario four catches for 48 yards.

The San Diego defense teed off on Titans QB Jake Locker, holding him to 15-for-30 passing for 174 yards. Chris Johnson had another rough outing, as he put up just 17 yards on eight carries.

In two games in 2011, Johnson has just 21 yards on 19 carries.

”No one wants to start 0-2,” Locker said. ”It’s not the way you envisioned it going. … I wasn’t able to move the ball consistently. Whatever’s not working for us, we have to figure it out and work hard to overcome it.”

The Chargers were all too happy to take advantage of the Titans issues, sending them back to Tennessee 0-2.

Next Sunday, the Bolts will be at home for a key battle with the NFC South Atlanta Falcons.
