The Chargers were looking for a backup quarterback after Kyle Boller retired a day after signing with the team and have come to terms with Kevin O’Connell.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, O’Connell started 33 games from 2004 to 2007 for the San Diego State Aztecs. In 2008, the Patriots drafted him in the third round, making him the first SDSU quarterback to be selected since Dan McGwire in 1991.
O’Connell was released in 2009 and has since spent time with Lions, Jets and Dolphins.
