Chargers to Exercise Patience When It Comes to Hiring a New Head Coach

The Chargers continue to be on the lookout for a new coach after canning Anthony Lynn Monday, but GM Tom Telesco is taking a very different approach to the search for a new voice.

That approach includes the “P” word – patience.

“If it’s something that we have to wait for. We’ll wait. We’ll wait and we’ll make it work,” Chargers GM Tom Telesco said Wednesday.

“We have an opportunity to ascend and ascend quickly. We’ve got work to do. Obviously, it’s nowhere near a perfect roster, but I think we got a bright future here.”

The Bolts have a couple current candidates that many teams are also interested in, such as Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Panthers offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh.

Many of the big name candidates are on teams that are in the playoffs, meaning that if the Chargers locked one up they would have to wait till that team is out of the playoffs to make the hire.

Most of the hot candidates are still on teams that are in the postseason, so even if the Chargers locked one up they would have to wait till that team is out of the playoffs to make the hire.

Telesco hiring a new coach is becoming old hat, as the next hire will be the third head coach hired by Telesco since taking over for A.J. Smith back in January of 2013.
