Hunter Henry Set to Ink Bolts Franchise Tag for 2020

Chargers tight end Hunter Henry is signing his franchise tag today, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports via Michael Peterson of Boltsfromtheblue.com.

Henry, one of the brightest young stars at the tight end position, is coming off playing in 12 games in 2019 where he set career-highs in passes caught and receiving yards with 55 and 652, respectively. Henry missed four games after suffering a tibia plateau fracture during their week one match-up with the Indianapolis Colts.

Henry enters his fifth year in the NFL but missed the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. That was a huge letdown for the team as it was slated to be his first as the true #1 tight end following the team’s decision to not bring back Antonio Gates prior to his injury.

Up to this point, Henry has amassed 136 catches for 1,709 yards and 17 touchdowns. He has yet to play in all 16 games of a regular season. His career-high is 15 games while splitting time with Gates as a rookie in 2016.
