Is Mike Williams Finally Starting to Become a Star for the Chargers?

It may have taken awhile, and if you checked a site like it was probably pretty unlikely after a really tough start, but it is looking more and more like Chargers wideout Mike Williams is turning into the teams’ biggest offensive playmaker.

In Sunday’s 35-23 loss to the Rams in Los Angeles, a game in which the Chargers were a touchdown underdog, in most betting circles, Williams was very good, making four catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Williams is making a believer out of the Chargers coaches and even out of the person that is throwing him passes and making him better, that being quarterback Philip Rivers.

“He played big and strong and made some big plays,” Rivers said. “He’s only going to continue to be more and more of a factor for us.”

The 2017 season was a rough one for Williams, as pretty much from the moment he was drafted he battled injuries. Last year he had just 11 catches for 95 yards without a score.

He caught a touchdown in the Chargers Week two win at Buffalo, and already here in 2018 he has 11 catches for 189 with three scores, and just looks like a much better and more confident wide out.

“He’s going to continue to do this,” said Rivers, pointing his hand upward when asked about Williams. “Gosh, he played big and strong, and made a handful of big plays, and obviously the touchdowns. He’s going to continue to be more of a factor for us.”

The athleticism that Williams brings to the Chargers cannot be denied. He’s 6′ 4″, 220 pounds, and the former Clemson wide out might just be ready for a breakout season that the Chargers waited a season for after he was taken in the first round with the seventh overall pick last season in the draft.

Expect Rivers and Williams to continue to build on the relationship they have already started, and with the way that the 2018 season has started, it could be a big season for Williams, showing again that a first-round pick has paid off for the Bolts.
