After losing offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt to the Tennessee Titans, there was a chance the San Diego Chargers could have lost defensive coordinator, John Pagano, as well. However, that will not be happening as the 46-year-old Pagano resigned with the Chargers on Tuesday.
Pagano’s contract with the Chargers had expired and he was free to go elsewhere. But with no real demand on the market, Pagano will return to the Chargers for the 13th season with the team. Next season will be Pagano’s third as the defensive coordinator.
Pagano and the defense started slow in 2013 but turned up the pressure as the season continued. The Chargers went on to clinch the 6th seed in the AFC and won their first playoff game since 2008. The defense finished 23rd in total defense while finishing -4 in the turnover ratio. These things must be improved in 2014, but I am sure the players in the locker room are happy nonetheless to get their defensive coach back.
