NFL Suspends Bolts DE Garrett Brown

The NFL has suspended Chargers defensive end Garrett Brown four regular-season games for violating its substance abuse policy.

Brown, 23, is eligible to play in the preseason, although he’s been missing practice to a foot injury, wearing a protective boot.

He recently tested positive for a performance enhancer.

Brown was not expected to make the 53-man roster out of training camp, and the suspension figures to lengthen those odds.

John Pace, Brown’s agent, said he learned about the positive test this week and is “taken back by this.”

He declined to disclose the substance for which Brown tested positive.

“We have no idea where it came from,” Pace said. “Me and Garrett, we’ve been through this, looking over absolutely everything that he’s taken, and there’s nothing that warrants the (positive test), unless something was in a mixture. You don’t know, and that’s the crazy part. He’s a great kid.”
