Chargers Ink Left Tackle Jared Gaither

The Chargers have come to terms with left tackle Jared Gaither on a four-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Gaither spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, who selected the 6-foot-9, 340-pound left tackle in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Supplemental Draft. Gaither started 28 games over his first three seasons in the league before missing 2010 with a back injury and signing with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent in August.

Gaither appeared in 10 games for the Chiefs in a reserve role, but committed a costly false start penalty on the final drive of a 13-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gaither, who’ll turn 26 in a few days, started the final five games of the 2011 season at left tackle for the Chargers, who released longtime left tackle Marcus McNeill for medical and financial reasons.
