Chargers Announce Kris Dielman to Retire

Chargers left guard Kris Dielman will announce his retirement at a 10am PST press conference on Thursday, the team announced.

Signed by the Chargers as an undrafted out of Indiana in 2003, Dielman became a full-time starter in 2005 and started 97 of 99 games over the last seven seasons. Dielman sustained a concussion during an October loss to the New York Jets and reportedly suffered a seizure on the return flight to San Diego.

The Chargers placed Dielman on injured reserve a few weeks later.

Dielman had one year remaining on his six-year, $39 million contract from 2007 that included a $4.5 million base salary and $1 million roster bonus for the 2012 season. Dielman’s retirement will clear $5.5 million in cap space for the Chargers this season.
