DB Paul Oliver May Be Odd Man Out in San Diego in 2011

Pro Football Weekly says that DB Paul Oliver could be on his way out in San Diego.

The Chargers have made overhauling their secondary a theme of their offseason, signing SS Bob Sanders before the lockout started and taking two defensive backs — FS Marcus Gilchrist and CB Shareece Wright — in the first three rounds of the draft and GM A.J. Smith also would like to re-sign FS Eric Weddle, the team’s second-leading tackler last season with 96. All those players, along with returning safeties Darrell Stuckey and Steve Gregory, create a logjam at the position, meaning there likely will be an odd man out.

Pro Football Weekly hears that person could be Paul Oliver, a versatile player who has lined up both at cornerback and safety for the Chargers. Oliver could be a free agent depending on how the new CBA is constructed, as he is set to enter his fourth year in the league. A source close to Oliver told PFW that he is staying in great shape this offseason and would like to return to San Diego, but understands he might have to go elsewhere to get the playing time he desires.
