2010 Look Back – Chargers Fall to 2-3 Losing to Oakland 35-27

We continue our look back at the 2010 season today, and it’s week five, and the team at 2-2 suffered a huge loss to the Raiders, sparking concern that would be justified as the season went on.

Two blocked punts early and many more mistakes the rest of the way. That’s the easy way to breakdown the Chargers first loss to the Raiders since the days of the AFL (ok, it hasn’t been that long, but it did seem that way), as San Diego fell 35-27.

After giving up points on two blocked punts in the first quarter, the Chargers gave up late as the Raiders scored two touchdowns inside the last 3:39, dropping the Chargers back under .500 at 2-3.

Philip Rivers has no issue throwing against the NFL’s No. 3-ranked pass defense, hitting for 290 yards by halftime. Malcom Floyd shattered his career high with 213 receiving yards. And the Chargers defense barred the Raiders from the end zone for nearly three quarters.

The early woes started as the Chargers trailed 12-0 as Oakland recovered one of the blocks for a touchdown and the other resulted in a safety that set up a short field and a 50-yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal.
