Chargers Shaun Phillips and Stephen Cooper Host Charity Dodge Ball Event for After-School All-Stars

Chargers linebacker Shaun Philips and the San Diego chapter of After-School All-Stars are joining forces again for the fourth annual Dodge Ball Tournament on the Woodstock Lawn at Hard Rock Hotel San Diego on Friday, June 10, 2011. This year, Chargers linebacker Stephen Cooper joins the fun to co-host the event, which starts at 6 p.m. The games kick off at 6:45 p.m. and teams are encouraged to dress in costume.

Dodge ball teams will battle for the title alongside Shaun Phillips and Stephen Cooper. Teams are judged on the creativity of their team name, costume attire and their performance in the tournament. San Diego businesses and community members can join in the fun and attend individually, establish a team or participate in different levels of sponsorship. All proceeds from the event go to After-School All-Stars, a charity that provides comprehensive out-of-school programs that keep kids safe and help them achieve in school and life.

General admission starts at $35, or $50 at the door, and includes admission, dinner, fun and support for a good cause. A $125 VIP ticket features additional access to the new VIP Red Carpet which opens at 5:30 p.m. Team pricing starts at $450 and go up to $750 for VIP teams, which includes admission to the VIP reception for all five players.

A variety of sponsorship levels are also available and start at $2,500. The highest level, “Ultimate Contenders,” costs $12,500 and includes exclusive event naming rights, three teams, one hotel room, a premium VIP branded cabana for entertaining guests, and other benefits.

“After-School All-Stars means a lot to me, as I’ve had several mentors who helped me get to where I am today,” said Shaun Phillips. “This year, the community will have the opportunity to meet the children and share my inspiration in helping them reach their full potentials.”

After-School All-Stars offer students academic assistance, independent learning, enrichment activities and sports, which help increase their confidence and encourage success in all areas of their lives. Spectators will have the opportunity to see these all-star students in action, as they will dance, beat box and play steel drums in the opening ceremony.
