Chargers Don’t Want to Give WR Jackson a Long Term Deal Right Now

Chargers general manager A.J. Smith has committed $10 million to wide receiver Vincent Jackson by designating him as the AFC West club’s franchise player. However, he’s not inclined to make a long-term commitment to Jackson at this time.

Jackson has had two driving under the influence episodes in the past. “Vincent’s a good player and he’s always been a good player, which I’ve said repeatedly,” Smith told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I’m comfortable with not giving him a long-term deal right now and we are not negotiating a long-term deal. We’ll see how the year goes, but not at the present time.”
