Chargers Add S Pat Watkins, Cut WR Gary Banks

Today, the Chargers signed strong safety Pat Watkins to the active roster.

Watkins was a 2006 fifth-round draft pick out of Florida State by the Dallas Cowboys.

He is in his fifth season in the league after spending his first four seasons with the Cowboys. He was released by the Cowboys after the 2009 season and visited a couple teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals, during the 2010 pre-season. He has been dealing with a injuries on-and-off throughout his NFL career, which was part of the release for his release from the Cowboys.

Throughout his five years in the NFL, he has tallied 122 tackles, four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Wide receiver Gary Banks was placed on waivers in order to free up a roster spot for Watkins. Banks has only caught one pass for two yards in his two games for the Chargers this season.
