Just an FYI… Merriman Will be a Bill

Now it’s the Bills’ turn to deal with “Lights Out”

According to multiple sources, the Buffalo Bills have claimed former Chargers’ linebacker Shawne Merriman off of waivers today.

After being given the “minor-injury designation” on October 13, the Chargers waived him yesterday after passing a physical to make sure that he was healthy enough to move on.

Now with the Bills, Merriman will beef up a Buffalo linebacking corps that has been hampered by multiple injuries this year. He will provide their defense will another option in the pass rush department, although I am scepticle as to whether he will be a factor at all considering the lack of production the Chargers have seen out of him in recent years.

After being named the AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2005, as well as being named to the Pro-Bowl in his first three years in the NFL, Merriman has seen a rapid decline in productivity due to numerous injuries. After holding out at the beginning of the 2010 season, he has become a burden for the Chargers, who finally decided to sever ties and let him go his own way.

It’s disheartening to know that “Lights Out” will no longer be wearing the navy, gold, powder blue, or white of the Chargers, but don’t be surprised if the Bills are disappointed with their acquisition when all is said and done.
