Chargers Swap Obiozor for New Linebacker

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers released linebacker Cyril Obiozor today. Obiozor was active for five games and played in three games, making one tackle in his limited playing time.

In response to Obiozor’s release, the Chargers have signed linebacker David Herron. Herron is in his fourth season in the NFL, and San Diego will be his fourth team. A former Michigan State Spartan, he has tallied 21 total tackles in 26 games, including three starts. He spent 2009 as a Kansas City Chief, but was released by the team on September 4.

Herron will bring some depth to a severely depleted linebacking corps that has had numerous injuries in only seven games so far this season, including five players on the Injured Reserve list.
