Rookie WR Seyi Ajirotutu Promoted to Active Roster

Rookie wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu has been promoted to the Chargers’ 53-man active roster from the practice squad with starting receivers Malcom Floyd and Legedu Naanee doubtful for Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

With Floyd and Naanee out and tight end Antonio Gates battling an injury, Ajirotutu has been brought up from the practice squad in hopes of creating some offensive productivity and giving quarterback Philip Rivers another healthy target to throw to.

Ajirotutu has been on the practice squad for the first six weeks of the season after a strong pre-season during which he caught seven passses for 145 yards. He is a former Fresno State Bulldog and teammate of Chargers’ rookie running back Ryan Mathews.

In order to open up a roster spot for Ajirotutu, the Chargers placed linebacker Kion Wilson on Injured Reserve. Wilson will be the fifth linebacker to be placed on the IR list this season for the Chargers.
