2 and Through: Dearth Placed on IR, Neill Signed

Only two days after signing with the Chargers, long snapper James Dearth has been placed on the injured-reserve list.

Dearth was signed as a replacement for long-time Chargers’ snapper David Binn who went down with an injury during the Kansas City Chiefs game on Monday night. However, now a replacement has been brought in for him after he has gone down with a broken foot.

So in comes Ryan Neill. Having been the long snapper for the Buffalo Bills during the ’07 and ’08 seasons and the St. Louis Rams in ’09 before being cut by the Rams this past offseason, Neill has had a solid amount of NFL experience. He was even brought in to San Diego for a short period of time in ’09 for a workout,  but obviously was let go with such a dependable player as Binn on the roster.

With only two days to prepare for the Chargers’ Sunday game against the Jaguars, hopes aren’t too high that special teams will be any better than last week’s poor performance.
