Chargers Sign Veteran OT Tra Thomas

Today, the Chargers made their latest free agent move, signing offensive tackle Tra Thomas to a one-year contract.

The three time Pro-Bowler and former first-round draft pick out of Florida State was signed to the Chargers as an insurance policy, taking into considering the scenario in which Marcus McNeill continues to hold out throughout training camp. He will provide solid veteran depth at a position currently surrounded in question marks.

“Tra is a talented player with a wealth of starting experience,” General Manager A.J. Smith said. “We have held him in high regard for many years. He will be added to the mix as we move forward in preparation for the upcoming season.”

Thomas, 35, has spent eleven years of his twelve year career with the Philadelphia Eagles, before heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. During his only season with the Jaguars, he played in eight games and started in three.

Throughout his career, he has started in 165 games, including 17 playoff games.
