Chargers Keep Streaking; Stop Chiefs with 43-14 Win

The Chargers continued to make their way all the way back as they rocked the rival KC Chiefs at home Sunday, winning easily 43-14. The team took advantage of four KC turnovers, turning them into scores. One of the scores was a 40-yard fumble return by safety Paul Oliver, and LaDainian Tomlinson scored two touchdowns in the runaway win.

The win was the 6th straight for the Chargers, who now are 8-3 on the season, and in control of the AFC West. Philip Rivers threw two touchdown passes to Antonio Gates, and was 21 of 28 for 317 yards. Tomlinson had 39 yards on 13 carries, but reached a milestone, as he moved into 10th on the NFL’s all-time rushing list.

The San Diego D did the job all day against Matt Cassel and the Chiefs. They forced turnovers, and then made them count with scores, like the one that was a direct result of a blitz that ended up in Oliver’s hands. The Chiefs fourth turnover came early in the third quarter when a shotgun snap went over Cassel’s head on third-and-1 from the Chiefs 31 and was recovered by English at the 10. Tomlinson scored on a 3-yard run two plays later to make it 35-7.

Cassel was held in check by the Chargers D, as he was just 19 of 31 for 178 yards. He was sacked once. The Chargers held KC to 284 yards, putting up 426 of their own. The Chargers will look for 7 in a row next week, and should get it as they head to Cleveland to play the 1-10 Browns.
