Rivers Gets His Payday; QB Signs a Six-Year Extension Worth $92 Million

The Chargers have made QB Philip Rivers a very rich man, as today the team rewarded him with a whopping six-year deal worth $92 million according to reports. Rivers is coming off his best season, when he set a team record for touchdown passes with a league-high 34. He also led the NFL with a quarterback rating of 105.5.

“Philip has proven he has all of the necessary qualities to be a successful quarterback in the N.F.L.,” the Chargers’ president, Dean Spanos, said. “He’s a proven winner and an unquestioned leader for this football team.”

Rivers has thrown for more than 10,000 yards over the past three seasons. ESPN reports that about $38-39 million is guaranteed in the deal. He led the team to the playoffs the past three seasons and has a career record of 36-18, including the playoffs.
