A New Deal for QB Rivers Seems Still Far Away

ESPN reports that it a deal for Philip Rivers doesn’t look likely to happen anytime soon:

Philip Rivers is entering the final year of his contract, but no extension is imminent in San Diego and the Chargers haven’t discussed an extension with their quarterback much. Eli Manning, taken within three picks of Rivers in the 2004 NFL Draft, got a $97.5 million extension from the Giants last month. San Diego could allow Rivers to enter next season without a new contract, instead placing their franchise tag on him.
