The Chargers want to keep RB Darren Sproles, an unrestricted free agent in the spring, on board next season. However, the team views Sproles as continuing in his role as a returner and situational back. The sides have spoken this season about a contract extension, but not substantially. “I have no idea on Darren Sproles,” general manager A.J. Smith said. “We would love to have Darren Sproles, and my understanding is he would love to be a Charger. That’s a good start.”
