Sproles Earning Himself More and More Money as Free Agency Nears?

From: San Diego Union Tribune

No one knows which team Darren Sproles will be playing for next season, but with each passing game it seems he makes himself a more valuable commodity. On the verge of becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2009, Sproles produced possibly his best performance as a Charger last night in San Diego’s 52-21 victory over the Denver Broncos that clinched the AFC West title. The Chargers’ brass must be mulling the options.

It is virtually guaranteed the team won’t protect Sproles with a franchise tag because he would earn around $8 million next season. So Sproles is likely to test the free-agent market, with the Chargers going up against other bidders. Sproles was impressive on kick returns from his rookie season, but he’s done more subbing for LaDainian Tomlinson this season, and he has responded by proving to be a multifaceted threat.
