Both quarterback Philip Rivers and running back LaDanian Tomlinson say they’ll be ready to play next weekend when the San Diego Chargers meet the New England Patriots for the American Football Conference championship. Rivers and Tomlinson left with injuries during Sunday’s dramatic 28-24 comeback win over the Colts in their AFC divisional game in Indianapolis.
Backup quarterback Billy Volek made a one-yard plunge over the goal line in the fourth quarter for the go-ahead score. It’s the first time since 1994 the Chargers have reached the AFC finals. They’re 13-and-5 now, with an eight-game winning streak going into this Sunday’s game in Massachusetts. The Patriots are unbeaten after defeating Jacksonville 31-20 Saturday. The winner of Sunday’s game will face the NFC champion in Super Bowl 42, February 3rd in Glendale, Arizona.
