Chargers Bolt to AFC Title Game with 28-24 Win in Indy

San Diego Chargers quarterback Billy Volek (7) hands off to running back Michael Turner during the fourth quarter of an NFL divisional playoff football game against the Indianapolis Colts, Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, in Indianapolis. Volek, taking over for injured starter Philip Rivers, took the Chargers 78 yards for the winning score in their 28-24 win.

Billy Volek came on for an injured Philip Rivers and plunged into the end-zone from one-yard out with under five minutes left in the fourth quarter as the Chargers shocked the defending Super Bowl champion Colts, 28-24, in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs.

Michael Turner replaced an injured LaDainian Tomlinson and rushed for 71 yards for San Diego, which will face the unbeaten New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game next Sunday at Gillette Stadium.  Rivers, who left the game in the fourth quarter due to a right knee injury, ended 14-of-19 for 264 yards with three touchdowns and an interception.

Tomlinson had 28 yards on seven carries before exiting in the second quarter due to a left leg injury.  Vincent Jackson, Chris Chambers and Darren Sproles each had a touchdown grab in San Diego’s eighth straight victory.
