Game at Home vs Texans On for Scheduled Date and Time

A wildfire evacuee sleeps Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, Calif. The stadium, home of the San Diego Chargers, is being used as an evacuation center for those affected by wildfires.

Despite having to practice in Arizona all week, the Chargers will play at home, and they will play Sunday vs the Houston Texans at the scheduled 1pm start.  The team made the decision today after San Diego County announced that Qualcomm Stadium would close as an evacuation center at noon today.  “Early Friday morning the Chargers informed me that the NFL has decided to play Sunday’s game as scheduled at Qualcomm Stadium,” Mayor Jerry Sanders said in a press release. “The City will be able to provide sufficient public safety personnel to manage a professional football game without impeding ongoing wildfire recovery efforts.”  The talk on Thursday was that the game would be moved to Monday night, but then as things calmed down a bit in San Diego County, the team made the decision that playing at home and at the normal time the game was scheduled was the way to go.
