Chargers Acquire Veteran WR Chris Chambers

Chris Chambers
Just before the trade deadline the Chargers made a move to acquire veteran WR Chris Chambers from the Miami Dolphins. They traded a 2008 2nd round draft choice to Miami in return for Chambers. Chambers hasn’t scored a TD this season but he has caught 31 balls for 415 yards. San Diego’s leading receiver, Vincent Jackson, only has 20 catches for 320 yards and 2 TD’s.

Head Coach Norv Turner doesn’t seem to be concerned with Chambers’ lack of TD’s so far this season, as he told reporters, “Chris is an explosive player and I’m thrilled to have an opportunity to work with him again…He’s a very consistent player and he has big play ability. We think he can add to what we’re doing on offense. The bonus for us is that he’s familiar with the system. It should be a quick and easy adjustment for him. We expect him to come in and be productive right away.”

Chambers played under Turner while he was the offensive coordinator in Miami in 2002-03. Chambers will help fill the void left by WR Eric Parker who will miss the rest of the season with a broken toe. He will have an extra week to get re-acclimated to the offense as the Chargers have a bye this weekend.
