The Chargers were without All-Pro tight end Antonio Gates on Wednesday at practice as he sat out the session with a sore back. The good news is that Gates say he should be able to be back on the field Thursday and should be able to play on Sunday night vs the Patriots. “It tightened up today and we just decided not to see any action today,” Gates said. “I’ll be back tomorrow.”
Gates and the Chargers offense was on the field a lot Sunday, as they stayed on the field over 37 mintues. Gates had nine catches for 107 yards, including a 17-yard touchdown. “I took a lot of hits, man,” Gates said. “It’s a concern because he didn’t practice, but I think he’s all right,” coach Norv Turner said. “It’ll be day-to-day. I’d assume he’ll be able to do part of practice tomorrow.”
