Chargers Agree to Terms with Davis and 4 Other Draft Picks

The San Diego Chargers have signed Craig Davis, Anthony Waters, Paul Oliver, Legedu Naanee and Brandon Siler. The Chargers signed their fourth round selection Scott Chandler in June. Safety Eric Weddle is the only draft choice who hasn’t agreed to contract terms.

Davis, a WR from LSU, was the first player chosen by the Chargers as he was drafted #30 overall. Getting Davis into camp on time is very important for the bolts, as he will provide depth to the suspect wide receiver position of the San Diego Chargers.

Anthony Waters, a LB out of Clemson, was drafted 96th overall. The question mark with Waters is a knee injury he suffered in the first game of his senior season in 06’. He dominated the ACC as a junior and hopes to come into camp and prove that his knee injury won’t hold him back from dominating in the NFL.

Naanee, a FB-WR from Boise State, was the 172nd player selected in the draft. He is a very versatile football player and the Chargers plan to take advantage of that. They hope to use him in a lot of different ways on offense.

Siler, a LB from Florida, was chosen with the 240th pick by the Chargers. He played a vital role on Florida’s National Championship team last season. He has a lot of talent and it will be interesting to see how it translates at the NFL level.

Paul Oliver, a CB from Georgia, was chosen by the Chargers in the supplemental draft just a few weeks ago. He bypassed his senior season as a Bulldog because he was academically ineligible. He might see some playing time this year in certain nickel and dime situations but his real value will be evident when CB Drayton Florence makes his, what appears to be imminent, departure following this season.

It is very important that all of these players signed in time for training camp. Every practice is extremely crucial for rookies in the NFL and any sort of holdout could negatively impact their development and performance this season. Hopefully for Charger fans Eric Weddle signs this week and is able to make it into camp on time.
